53 OFWs graduate from Ateneo leadership program

ABS-CBN - Fifty-three Filipinos in Dubai graduated from the Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship program of (LSE) of the Ateneo de Manila University recently.

"It's basically for our OFWs para ma-improve ang kanilang conditions in life," said Dr. Mario Villaverde, associate dean of the Ateneo School of Government.

The graduates completed the six-month program, which included lectures and business planning, aimed at instilling financial literacy among participants as well as support those who wish to put up their own business.

Batch president Arlene Pulido said the program helps them to be their own boss someday.

"Matuto magtayo ng negosyo para hindi tayo habambuhay employee na lang. Why not be entrepreneurs someday?" said Pulido.

The LSE program's batch 26 produced 14 business plans for Filipinos.

"Naging malaking opportunity sa akin ang LSE. Mas nakilala ko ang sarili ko. Before, hindi ako financially stable. Pero ngayon, secured na ako. Nagbabayad na ako ng SSS, Pag-IBIG, saka in process na rin po ang insurance ko," said LSE graduate Melanie Anacleto, a household service worker in Dubai.

Meanwhile, two groups from the graduating batch received P50,000 as innovation fund for their business plan which showed great market potential. -- Report from Rouie Flor Villegas, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau.
